Ashli grew up in Maine as a Jehovah’s Witness and has a profound passion for assisting others who are navigating the challenging process of leaving high control faith groups. With a genuine desire to help others on their journey, she dedicates her time and energy to supporting and empowering individuals who have transitioned out of the Jehovah’s Witness faith.
Ashli’s experience instilled in her a deep understanding of the challenges faced by those who are leaving high control faith groups, and she strives to provide a safe space for individuals to share their stories, find solace, and navigate the complexities of rebuilding their lives. Ashli hopes to be a valuable ally for those on the path to personal freedom and self-discovery.
As a part of The Liberati, it is Ashli’s hope for the organization to be a beacon of hope and support for those seeking to embrace their newfound freedom and personal growth outside the confines of the Jehovah's Witness organization.
Born into a 3rd generation JW family, Elaine had a beautiful childhood and has two grown children herself. Now thriving after a personal faith crisis later in life, Elaine wants to reach a hand back to provide practical and financial assistance to people who are in the process of exiting a high control religion. Elaine is honored to be working behind the scenes handling our accounting and nonprofit compliance.
Elaine is passionate about empowering women and enjoys her work in nonprofit accounting. Her outlook can be summed up in the following quote by A.C. Grayling: "Choose to live on the basis of your best, most generous, most sympathetic understanding of your fellow human beings in all their variety."
Born into a 5th generation JW family, Ryan was a Pioneer, Ministerial Servant and Elder while an active member of the church. He also served at Bethel, the world headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses for nearly 18 years, and has fond memories of his time there. He respects the beliefs of his JW family and friends and is hopeful he can still have a relationship with them.
A series of factors led to his awakening to the truth about "the truth" and the painful realization he was part of a high control religion. Fearing the loss of everyone he ever loved, he was physically in, mentally out (PIMO) for 7 years, before fading in 2021. Ryan is grateful to live free from fear, and strives to be better, not bitter. He believes that love is the truth and finds meaning in helping others to find freedom, hope and inspiration.
Ryan's new perspective is reflected best by his two favorite quotes:
"The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion." - Thomas Paine
"Spread Love, it's the Brooklyn Way." - The Notorious B.I.G.
Ramon grew up as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in the Washington, DC area and served as a Pioneer, Ministerial Servant, and eventually Bethelite at the religion's World Headquarters in New York. He disassociated himself from the Witnesses in 2006 and since that time, attended university and became a lawyer.
Ramon is passionate about using his life experiences and legal skills to assist those who are transitioning out of religions like the Jehovah's Witnesses, particularly fellow members of the LGBTQ+ community. His favorite quote is from Anne Frank:
"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world."
